The 2024 Nelson Mandela Legacy Ride4Hope is more than just a cycling event. It’s a journey of unity, perseverance, and giving back. Covering over 500 km from the Nelson Mandela Capture Site in Howick to Mthatha, this event marks its 5th anniversary this year with a new start and finish location. The riders are not only cycling across beautiful South African landscapes but are also engaging with local communities to inspire hope and leave a lasting legacy.

Day-by-Day Recap

Day 1: Howick to Underberg (144 km, Elevation: 2528 m) The ride kicked off on September 4th at the historic Nelson Mandela Capture Site in Howick. Riders made their way to Underberg, covering challenging terrain and breathtaking landscapes. The day’s highlight was the community engagement at Jabula Primary School, reminding everyone of the core purpose behind the ride—building a legacy of hope.

Day 2: Underberg to Kokstad (128 km, Elevation: 1475 m) Day 2 saw riders pushing through from Underberg to Kokstad. The route tested their endurance with steep climbs but rewarded them with scenic views. A memorable stop at Nomzamo Primary School in Kokstad marked a beautiful moment of giving back to the community, with an official handover event.

Day 3: Lusikisiki/Port St. John’s to Mthatha (92 km – 128 km) On ABSA Day, riders departed from Lusikisiki and Port St. John’s towards Mthatha, facing elevations as high as 2732m. The road to Mthatha was both a challenge and a celebration as the riders drew closer to their destination, embodying the spirit of resilience and community support.

Day 4: Mthatha – Qunu – Mthatha (50 km) MTN Day was special, taking riders through the heart of Qunu, the hometown of Nelson Mandela. They visited Qunu Junior Secondary School and the Nelson Mandela Museum, paying homage to the great leader’s legacy. It was a day filled with reflection, learning, and renewed commitment to Madiba’s vision of a better world.

Day 5: Conclusion in Mthatha The final day of the Ride4Hope marks a celebration of achievements, both big and small. As riders prepare to return to their homes, the impact of their journey will ripple through the communities they visited and beyond.

Bus tickets can be booked through our online portal, whatsapp portal, at one of our branches or many other third-party agents like Computicket, Bus bud, Flightsite etc.

Can I make changes to my booking?

Yes. It is possible to make changes to your booking 3 hours prior to departure by contacting our customer care or one of our sales offices nationwide. There is 20% rebooking fee applicable and a price difference payable depending on the ticket class.

Can I cancel my bus ticket?

Yes. Tickets can be cancelled 6 hours prior to departure. A 20% cancellation fee is applicable.

What happens if I miss my bus?

If you cannot make it to the departure point on time you may cancel or rebook your ticket 6 hours prior to departure by contacting customer care or any of our offices.

What documentation must I have to board the bus?

Bring along your ticket or ticket reference number along with your ID book.
